Researchers at Weizmann Institute of Science and Cinvestav recently carried out a study testing the theory of Hawking radiation on laboratory analogues of black holes. [32] One of the most cataclysmic events to occur in the cosmos involves the collision of two black holes. [31] Black holes are known for their voracious appetites, binging on matter with such ferocity that not even light can escape once it's swallowed up. [30] During the formation of a black hole, a bright burst of very energetic light in the form of gamma rays is produced, these events are called gamma ray bursts. [29] A new Tel Aviv University-led study published today in Nature Astronomy finds that some supermassive black holes are triggered to grow, suddenly devouring a large amount of gas in their surroundings.
